Kidney 18

The Shiguan acupoint, also known as KI 18 and part of the kidney meridian of Foot-Shaoyin, is frequently utilized in addressing various health concerns such as vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, postpartum abdominal pain, and female infertility.

Location of the Shiguan acupoint is identified 3 cun above the Shenque acupoint (CV 8) and 0.5 cun lateral to CV 11.

Functions: Shiguan harmonizes the Stomach, regulates the Lower Jiao, relieves pain, and regulates the Ren and Chong Vessels.

The meaning behind the term "Shiguan" is derived from "Shi," referring to the water of the kidney, and "Guan," denoting the gate. The name signifies the descent of Chongmai qi from the kidney meridian, cooling down to ground water. This acupoint deals with water dampness-qi from the Shangqu acupoint, dissipating heat and cooling to ground water liquid, unable to ascend, hence the name.

Therapeutically, pressing the Shiguan acupoint with the middle fingers until a sense of soreness is felt, and kneading for 3-5 minutes, proves beneficial. This technique not only aids in treating spleen and stomach deficiency and cold but also promotes sleep and overall fitness with prolonged massaging.

In terms of compatibility, combining Shiguan acupoint with Sanyinjiao, Yinjiao, and Shenshu points is effective for treating threatened abortion and infertility. Additionally, combining it with Zhongwan and Neiguan points proves useful in addressing stomach pain, vomiting, and abdominal distension.
