At Matthew Tweedie Hypnosis in Evandale, I offer trusted and compassionate counselling for adults, couples, and families. If you are dealing with anxiety, relationship challenges, grief, or a sense of being stuck, you have come to the right place.

Why choose counselling with me

  • I bring a Master’s in Hypno-psychotherapy and over 10 years of experience.

  • My approach is warm, respectful, and always tailored to you.

  • I believe lasting change happens when you feel truly heard, when you reflect deeply, and when you practise new ways of thinking and relating.

  • You can choose to meet in person at Evandale or online from the comfort of your home.

What I Offer

Below are the main counselling services I provide. If you do not see your situation listed, please reach out and we can discuss what support would suit you best.

1. Individual Counselling

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or major life changes, individual counselling can help you make sense of your experience and create a healthier way forward.
Common areas of focus include:

  • Anxiety and stress, including panic attacks, overthinking, and tension

  • Depression and low mood, including loss of motivation or feelings of emptiness

  • Life transitions, such as career change, relocation, parenthood, or retirement

  • Grief and loss, including death of a loved one or the end of a relationship

  • Trauma and emotional pain from past experiences

  • Self-esteem, identity, and confidence

2. Couples and Relationship Counselling

Relationships naturally evolve, but sometimes that change brings conflict or distance. Whether you are newly together or in a long-term partnership, I help couples rebuild trust, communicate effectively, and rediscover connection.
We focus on:

  • Listening and understanding one another

  • Repairing trust after conflict or betrayal

  • Navigating transitions such as parenthood or work changes

  • Restoring emotional closeness

  • Managing separation with respect and clarity

3. Online Counselling

I provide online sessions through secure video platforms, offering the same quality of care as in-person sessions. This is ideal if you prefer privacy at home, travel frequently, or live outside of Adelaide.
You can:

  • Access sessions from home or work

  • Receive professional support no matter where you are located

  • Save time by avoiding travel

  • Maintain confidentiality and convenience

My Counselling Approach

My style of counselling is integrative and centred on what works best for you. I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Mindful Self-Compassion, and Person-Centred principles. I combine practical tools with deep emotional understanding so that insight turns into action.

Here is how we will work together:

  • Creating safety: Our first goal is to establish trust so you can speak freely and know you are supported.

  • Clarifying your goals: Together we identify what you want to change or understand, creating a clear direction for our sessions.

  • Exploring and practising: We look at thoughts, feelings, and patterns that may keep you stuck and practise new ways of responding.

  • Collaborating: You are always an active participant in this process. I provide guidance, perspective, and structure while you remain in control of your progress.

  • Reviewing progress: We regularly reflect on how you are feeling and adjust as needed to keep our work meaningful and effective.

How It Works

Step 1: Free 15-minute consultation

We begin with a short phone or video call to make sure we are a good fit. You can share what is happening, and I will explain how counselling works and answer any questions.

Step 2: First session

Your first full session lasts around an hour. We will explore your background, what has brought you here, and what you would like to focus on. You will leave with a clearer sense of direction and what to expect next.

Step 3: Ongoing sessions

Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly. The number of sessions depends on your goals and preferences. Some people need short-term support while others prefer longer-term personal development.

Step 4: Review and conclusion

As progress builds, we review what has changed and discuss whether to reduce or conclude sessions. The process is always flexible and led by your needs.

Fees and Options

  • Concession or reduced rate (if available)

  • Online sessions are the same rate as in-person sessions

  • Group or workshop pricing varies; please contact me directly

Some private health funds or insurance plans may reimburse counselling. I can provide a receipt for rebate claims if eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will counselling take?
The number of sessions varies depending on your situation. Some clients notice significant change in six to eight sessions, while others continue longer to deepen self-awareness and integration.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is confidential within legal and ethical limits. I will explain the confidentiality policy during our first session so you know exactly what to expect.

Do I need to know my goals before starting?
No. Many people come to counselling simply knowing that something feels off. We can explore and clarify your goals together.

Do you provide crisis support?
I focus on ongoing therapy rather than crisis response. If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or visit your nearest hospital. I can connect you with additional resources if needed.

Can I cancel or reschedule?
Please provide at least 24 or 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel. This ensures your time can be offered to someone else. We will discuss the full policy during your consultation.

Why Counselling Works

Research shows that a strong therapeutic relationship, clear goals, and evidence-based methods create the best outcomes. When you feel safe, heard, and supported, change becomes possible.

Clients often find that counselling helps because:

  • It brings clarity. You gain a deeper understanding of why you think and feel the way you do.

  • It offers practical tools. You learn specific strategies to respond to stress and emotions differently.

  • It provides accountability. Having someone to support you through change helps you stay focused and grounded.

Counselling is not about being “fixed.” It is about becoming more aware, more empowered, and more able to navigate life with confidence.
