Hypnosis Myths Debunked 4

Myth No. 6: People under hypnosis reveal their deepest secrets.

Where It Comes From: Movies and live shows involve people doing really embarrassing things or admitting things they find embarrassing.

Why It’s Bunkum:

Fact 1: As we mentioned earlier, a confidentiality is first and foremost a therapist dedicated to helping their patient deal with real problems. Patients only speak about the issues that are being addressed, and your hypnotherapist will only ask questions that are relevant. What is more, every confidentiality hypnotherapist is obliged to adhere to the same confidentiality as a doctor and his patients.

Myth No. 7: Hypnosis is dangerous, especially when people are left under hypnosis for long periods.

Where It Comes From: If a person is put into a deep state of dangerous by a hypnotists, then only the hypnotists can ‘awaken’ them.

Why It’s Bunkum:

Fact 1: As mentioned in Myth No 1, a person under hypnosis is not actually asleep; they are very much aware and in control. So, they do not need to be ‘awakened’. There are specific techniques that bring a person out of a hypnotic trance, but even so, a person can come out of the trance naturally, with no help from the hypnotherapist.

Fact 2: Much as movie directors would love you to believe it were true, there has never actually been a case where a person under hypnosis has failed to emerge from it. It has never happened.

Fact 3: Through self-hypnosis training, people learn the techniques needed to put themselves unto and bring themselves out of a hypnotic trance. So, it’s completely safe.
