Series derealisation: Article 2 of 3. “How hypnotherapy can help derealisation disorder.”

About derealisation/depersonalisation disorder.

This disorder is sometimes also known as a type of dissociative disorder, which can cause mental and physical problems. Some of the disorders are brought on following an unresolved traumatic life event. The disorder may last a very short time, or weeks and months – and may just go away on its own. Symptoms may differ from person to person, but could include some of the following:

·        A feeling that you are not quite certain who you are.

·        Feelings that you are dissociated from reality, and those around you.

·        Very often forgetting events and some of your personal information.

·        Feeling very little joy, and sometimes not feeling, or being aware of physical pain.

Dissociation is one of the ways the body copes with too much stress, and keeps you from being overwhelmed by stressful events in your life.

How hypnotherapy can help with the derealisation/dissociation disorder.

Hypnotherapy, or hypnosis is not magic, and there should be no illusion that it is a quick fix. However, the subconscious mind can be accessed by means of hypnosis, and the therapist can begin to identify the bad memories, negative ideas, and harmful responses to anxiety, which need to be discarded. These traumatic feelings need to be replaced by a new, positive mindset.

The main cause of dissociation is anxiety and stress, and this is one of the key areas that is helped by hypnosis. Experts agree that hypnosis always has a specific goal, and does not go headlong into trying to cure you of smoking, if your problems are anxiety and stress issues which are keeping you from moving forward in life.

Hypnosis, therefore, will always focus on the areas where the root causes of the problems are.

What are the root causes of derealisation and dissociation disorders?

Like many other mental health issues, one of the major causes of the disorder is rooted in anxiety and unrealistic fears. The dissociate disorders are also characterised by the combination of memory and personal identity. This is usually manifested by a period of amnesia, and on rare occasions may even result in the development of an alternate identity. However, clinical hypnosis by an experienced therapist, is able to prevent the development of an alternate identity. Creating another identity, is likened to self-hypnosis, so that someone else can take the responsibility of coping with overwhelming stress and anxiety.

Hypnosis works by first treating stress and anxiety, eliminating the triggers which lead to anxiety attacks and dissociation issues. The frequency of the attacks will be greatly reduced, until you learn to recognise them, and know how to consciously cut them out of your life. Clinical hypnotherapy is a powerful tool which can re-establish a continuity of memory and identity. Research has shown many successful outcomes for people suffering from derealisation and dissociation issues.

You will always be aware of what is happening during hypnosis.

At no time will you be asleep or unaware of what is happening around you. You will actually only be in in a deeply relaxed state, and able to take note of the helpful and healing suggestions the therapist may be making.

A new, positive mindset will change your outlook on life, and break the hold heartbreak may have settled on your life. Hypnosis to banish stress and anxiety, is the key to improving every aspect of your life.
