Series (5 part) on Hypnotherapy, Hypnosis, NLP for TMJ pain and connected issues. Article 5 of 5 re the connection between fear, trauma, and TMJ disorder.

June 6, 2023 Matthew Tweedie

Emotional factors.

Emotional factors such as anxiety, fear, anger, and trauma, all play a significant role in the causes of TMJ disorders. This is mostly due to the fact that they may cause muscular tension in the jaw, and involuntary grinding of the teeth.

The excessive clenching of the jaw muscles, and the sliding from side to side of the joint, will cause pain which may radiate to the neck, or the surrounding muscles and tissues. This often creates various symptoms which can make a TMJ disorder sometimes difficult to diagnose.

Stress and anxiety levels have risen to record high levels during the pandemic, and this has added to the anxious clenching and grinding and chronic pain of a TMJ disorder. It would appear that it all adds up to a cycle of pain and trauma from which there seems to be no relief.

Options for TMJ relief.

Some of the popular options for TMJ relief include over-the-counter meds, prescription drugs, and surgical procedures. However, these options are often expensive, and most have possible side effects which may not appeal to some people. Also, a surgical procedure can be invasive, and there may be some unpleasant after-effects.

An alternative option.

Recent, intensive studies have put the spotlight on a different option, that has been proven to successfully relieve TMJ pain and symptoms without any negative impacts.

This option is hypnotherapy, and NLP, which is known as neuro-linguistic programming. The underlying issues of fear, anxiety, stress and trauma, need to be dealt with before the healing work to lower and get rid of the pain can begin.

This is not the type of hypnosis where people jump around on a stage doing silly things – seemingly under the influence of a so-called comic hypnotist. During genuine hypnotherapy you are in a relaxed state, and the therapist is able to access the subconscious mind and deal with the anxiety and trauma, which may be lurking there causing high levels of stress.

In combination with hypnotherapy, NLP is able to help clear baggage and trauma from the subconscious mind, create a new mindset, and begin the healing process of the painful symptoms of a TMJ disorder.

How hypnosis for TMJ relief can help you:

·        Avoid the costs of expensive treatments and possible need for surgery.

·        Get relief without any side effects.

·        Relieve chronic pain without any side effects.

·        Teach you how to cope with circumstances which could trigger anxiety or stress.

·        Make lifestyle changes which may be adding to anxiety and stress triggers.

Good lifestyle changes will help you to feel confident that you are living a positive, healthier life.

The mind-body connection.

Most doctors now agree that the mind-body connection is very important. Studies have shown that the subconscious mind is what controls the whole body, like telling the lungs when to breathe, the heart to pump blood, and to do everything you think you do automatically. Experts agree that the subconscious mind, also has the ability to initiate healing.

Hypnosis is able to access and restore the mind-body connection, and obtain relief from symptoms which have always been resistant to other forms of treatment.

Hypnosis and NLP has proven to be a remarkably successful treatment when it come to combatting chronic TMJ disorder pain.
